LUCIOUS LOW-WATER LANDSCAPES
DESIGN MY YARD
Our sense of place is defined by our landscapes. The plants and design styles that grew in the yards of the suburban West for the last century have not only lost their cache but they've also lost their ecological relevance. Conventional lawns, hedging and other summer-thirsty landscaping is no longer supported by the climate conditions and resource availability of modern day. Many home-owners are sick of lawns and roses but still want something clean and calming and alive in their yards to look at and enjoy. Especially if it's something that doesn't have to be manicured and doused with chemicals regularly.

Califia Ecodesign is an award-winning custom landscape design boutique (Golden Arrow Award, 3x Houzz recognized, CBS featured) specializing in blended drought-tolerant, Pacific Coast native and edible landscaping plants. In tasteful contemporary styles. Planting like the wilderness makes gardens lower care, longer lasting and more drought tolerant. Diverse, blended planting palettes provide better coverage and year round interest. After the first 1-3 years establishment, many of them can thrive on minimal summer water.

RESTORATIVE

Picture
Permaculture-inspired landscapes that explode with fruit, flowers and herbs.
It's time to replenish the ecological vibrance of over-heated, over-paved and polluted residential areas in order to reverse carbon emissions, cool regional temperatures and protect what natural habitats and resources we have left. It starts at home and it starts outside. With landscapes that reduce water needs by 50-85% (over conventional lawn), with trees that cool surface temperatures as much as 70°F / 20°C in heat waves and with plants and arrangements that inspire and attract people enough to care lovingly for and protect them.

Briana Lyon

Founder & Chief Designer

Briana is a pioneer in ecodesign. Trained in Permaculture, contemporary design, architectural history and firesafe landscape planning. She's experimented with sustainable habitat, irrigation and building methods in the Western United States and Canada.
Briana Lyon has been featured in the L.A. Times as a California native sod expert, consulted with the San Gabriel Valley Water Company, the City of Pasadena, the Municipal Water District of Orange County and more. Now working out of and establishing a sustainable lawn-alternative groundcover breeding in the Santa Cruz mountain region of California. She offers expertise and continual innovation in plant selections, turf replacement strategies and more. Envisioning the ecological renewal of California through a unique combination of artistic thinking and environmental innovation.

Lyon spent more than 20 years journeying between drought plagued regions of California and forest-fire prone regions of Western Canada to observe and trial both contemporary low-water landscaping and sustainable agroforestry in diverse and changing climates. With a goal to replenish the ecological vibrance of over-heated, over-paved and polluted residential areas to reverse carbon emissions, cool regional temperatures and protect what natural habitats and resources we have left. It starts at home and it starts outside. With landscapes that reduce water needs by 50-85% (over conventional lawn), with trees that cool surface temperatures as much as 70°F / 20°C in heat waves and with plants and arrangements that inspire and attract people enough to care lovingly for and protect them.
